A principios del siglo XX la joven Carmen esta enamorada del joven Fernando, pero su madre Carlota la quiere casar con Rodrigo, un viejo ridculo pero rico. Don Pancho, que pasa por padrino de Fernando pero que es su padre oculto, lo ayuda emborrachando al vejete la vspera de su boda y fingiendo que se debe batir en duelo para hacer que se vaya en fuga mientras los jvenes se casan, as como tambin los padres de stos, don Pancho y doa Carlota.
